On the occasion marking 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Air India has launched the flights between Amritsar and Patna in domestic sector and between London Stansted and Amritsar in international sector. It already connected Birmingham in UK with Amritsar and Toronto with Amritsar last year with a direct flight. Similarly, Nanded in India was also connected with Amritsar earlier. These connections go to emphasize that Air India is looking at Sikh pilgrims for boosting its sagging fortunes to some extent.
Air India will use 256-seater Boeing 787 which will operate on Monday, Thursday and Saturday for the Amritsar-Stansted route.
The operations on Amritsar-Patna route will be on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. AI 726 will leave Amritsar at 2:55 PM on these days and will reach Patna at 5:05 PM. On return, flight AI-725 will leave Patna at 10:55 AM on same days and reach Amritsar at 1:05 PM. It will be on A320 neo airplane which is a 162-seater plane.
Patna holds importance due to being the birth place of Guru Govind Singhji. Amritsar and Patna are two most important Takhts of Sikhism and have devotees world over.
